Beam Me Up Monday with Vivi Andrews
SHOULDA COULDA WOULDA by Vivi Andrews
I hate missing opportunities. I learned a long time ago that I am the kind of girl who will always jump off the cliff (usually with a bungee attached to my ankles) rather than live with the regret of missing the opportunity to feel that rush. I don’t want to sit around wondering what could have happened, so I have a leap-into-it mentality… which isn’t always the best approach to matters of the heart.
Especially because any romance is two-sided and the other side might not want to leap in with you.
Sometimes you are ready to move to Wisconsin or learn Italian, but he’s just not ready to risk his heart. So you go your separate ways and are left with that niggling what if. What if you’d met at a different time? What if things had progressed differently? Could he have been The One? Maybe. But now he’s just a missed opportunity. Another bridge you never got a chance to cross (or bungee jump off of).
Last year two of my romantic might-have-beens circled back into my life at the same time and it seemed like the universe was waving a second change flag in front of my face. So of course I leapt at it. But this time I leapt with literary zeal. I wrote a second chance romance. And because I’m me, it was a second chance romance between a pair of bear shifters.
Hugo is Moira’s missed opportunity. They met a decade ago when his heart was wholly engaged with the fantasy of unrequited love for another woman (and not saying that theme was drawn from life… but I’m not saying it wasn’t either…). But now Moira and Hugo are both older, maybe a little wiser, and the chemistry between them still burns just as hot as ever.
My might-have-beens last year turned out to be guys it was for the best to leave in the nostalgic past (and I have a new fella now who never misses the opportunity to make me grin), but for Hugo and Moira the second chance to see what might be may be just what the doctor ordered.
Do you have any second-chance romances in your real life?
Do you like to read them?
Like me, do missed opportunities make you crazy or do you think I’m nuts for my just-do-it ways?
Thank you so much for having me by to visit today, Darynda! J
Their history? Complicated. Their chemistry? Incendiary.
A Lone Pine Pride Novella
Ten years ago, Moira shared one hot night with the bear-shifter of her dreams, but when she took him up on his offer to join him at the Lone Pine Pride, reality landed with a thud. She quickly realized that he was only looking for a momentary distraction, not a happily ever after.
She’s been trying to get over him ever since, but no other shifter has measured up to the big bad bear.
When Hugo met Moira in a Yukon bar, he poured out his unrequited love for his alpha’s mate as he pounded down drinks. While Hugo remembers telling Moira he was emotionally unavailable, apparently she only heard his need for sexual healing.
He’s always felt guilty for unintentionally leading her on. But now that the woman he thought he wanted is finally available, he’s beginning to wonder if the one he really needs is the woman with whom he shared one incendiary night—then let slip through his fingers.
Warning: This book contains a stubborn old bear, mixed messages, mixed-up emotions, and lots of mixed drinks. Before reading, remember that the best cure for a hangover is NOT “hair of the bear”.
